A memory full of yesterday!

A memory full of yesterday!

Am trying to find the word that's disappeared from my head
Is it on the landing, on the stairs or on the bed?
it was festering on my tongue for a while and then it somehow fled;
Am hoping at some point today the light will soon be shed.

Went upstairs to get some thing and came down empty handed,
Climbed halfway up again only to get stranded!
Forgetting what I've already forgotten is becoming commonplace -
Something has really changed within this memory trace.

Looking everywhere for the car keys right here in my hand-
Something that a younger person wouldn't understand!
Was the medication taken today - the pills that keep me sane
And the tablets to improve all the grey stuff in my brain!

Using a mobile phone is just another complication,
Am just too slow to learn and it adds to my frustration.
Of all things that are modern, the instructions that mean nowt
Would rather live like, just what was and prefer to go without!

To turn the TV to another channel has got much too technical
Or lowering the volume with remote control has become nonsensical!
Watching the news in another continent and another tongue;
Wishing things just didn't change and wanting to be young!

The glasses are already on my head, cannot see without them
Looked for them just about everywhere almost to succumb!
 Forgot to call the cat in as I close my weary eyes
 After looking for the book Im reading full of dodgy spies!

Recognising and remembering people and their names;
Recollect where the car was parked, going to great pains.
Putting odd things in odder places, looking low and high.
Laying out some perfect plans, perfectly awry!

So this is it! A memory full of yesterday but nothing for today;
Can never answer a simple question, not these days straightaway!
More embarrassing moments over time and my thoughts are far away,
Vague recollections of recent events now have slipped away.

Repeating a repeated word time and time and time again
Trying to remember what was said is becoming a huge strain!
Think just sleep on it and wake up all refreshed
And go through the day trying to remember not to forget!
