For my Dad

Territorial!

The birds were fighting over territory
All in our next door neighbours tree!
Causing havoc to insects and bees
Disturbing all our country teas.

Why they were squawking is anyone's guess -
Causing nothing but a mess!
The Crows and Jays make such a din
And all we saw was a flurry of wings.

The noise and squeals went on and on
When all we wanted was a Nightingale's song,
A Woodpecker peck, a Pigeon to coo,
The pretty chant of a quaint cuckoo.

A dainty sparrow
Drunk from our wheelbarrow
A red breast Robin looks so sweet;
The morning chorus they chirp and tweet.

But these were so loud it was ear splitting
They must have been feather spitting!
All were so high, so out of reach
But raucous with their high pitched screech!

When we looked into the sky
The loudest was a greedy Magpie,
Stealing eggs, I let out a sigh -
Then got pooped right in my eye!

We know they can't live in harmony -
How cruel at times can nature be?
think next time just send out our cat
And that would be the end of that.....
