Want to meet!

 Want to meet!

Want to meet a swallowtail but they are in the East

Yet to meet some cute purple ones but they're such an elusive beast!

A Scotch Argus would be a find but they are in the highlands

The Fritillary on the Isle of Wight - not that close at hand.

I'd love to see a Monarch again, but they are overseas

And great to see some Morphos to adorn our flowers and trees!

The pretty Duke of Burgundy has now become quite rare

To spot a common butterfly now in decline - it really isn't fair.

Draw a line

 Draw a line

Gentle creatures fly from flower to flower,

Hate the greed of man, money and power.

An abundance of butterflies now in decline

The time has come now to draw a line.

A Comma, Clouded Yellow and Ringlet

They are so very delicate

Seen all of these in just one day -

An afternoon on a Saturday!

I've met a male and female Fritillary

So very handsome - so very pretty!

A Brimstone or yellow that would not pose

For a photo and could not get close!

Fluttered by a Marbled White

Gorgeous both on land and flight.

The silver-brown Purple Hairstreak

So enthralled I could not speak!

Playing in the warmer air

Red Admirals found almost anywhere!

They like the nettles and rotting fruit;

Though to see one now is in dispute.

Enchanting, captivating, these dainty things;

Many intricacies on their fragile wings.

Flies by so fast, the colour so vivid

Disappearing fast, feeling sad and livid.

I did not see an Orange-tip

But a Fritillary crawled on my fingertip!

A magical moment I will treasure;

That hot afternoon was such a pleasure!

Meadow Browns and many Gatekeepers

So near to those tiny delicate creatures

Crept in close, less than one metre

So overwhelmed just had to meet her!

His majesty, the purple one high in the trees

The sun, the heat, the gentle breeze;

Day dreamt about them since childhood

And there they were, in the woods!

In the meadow, near the river

Essex, small and larger Skipper

And almost by something supernatural,

A bush full of flitting beauties - White Admirals.

I saw no Peacocks or Tortoiseshells

The common ones we knew so well

Caterpillars on bushes of Privet and lilac

Wanting them to make a comeback.

Bring it back!

 Bring it back!

Ma’am and the monarchy

For your platinum jubilee

Wants us to plant trees!

Scratching my head,

Using my brain

To entice the butterflies, bees,

(With other beasties)

To bring back some of what we had -

To bring back eco food chains

With meadows growing carefree

And agree

That this doesn’t take

A Masters degree!

Wildness doesn’t need to maintain

(Remembering childhood

Making daisy chains

In the public domain)

And while you reign -

Let it rain!

While what we had

Is being regained

I can buy a pot plant

Or a climber for the window frame

And have a cup of tea

Or raise a glass (or two)

Of champagne

And the only tree for me,

Would be the family tree

As I live in a tiny flat by the sea

Dragonfly

Dragonfly

Tiny things,

Insect Kings!

Fill the sky with natures' hue.

Dainty hawker;

Breeds in water.

Wings you can see through.

Darts and skims

On minuscule limbs;

Hover in mid-air.

Excellent flier -

Like a spitfire!

Then quickly elsewhere!

They feed on gnats

Thank goodness for that!

They even mate in the air

Compound eyes

Beauty in our skies

They are just everywhere!

Build a pond

They won't abscond!

Only to migrate.

Watch multi colours

All through summer;

Nothing else equates.
