Safety net

Safety net

Butterfly, moth with colourful wings,

You pull on my heart strings!

You really are the most beautiful things

The whole of nature cold possibly bring.

Flying so elegantly like a magic fairy.

Years back, in abundance, now so rarely.

So many species, they do vary;

We're losing so much, it's getting scary.

You fly through the air with such precision,

You really are a spectacular vision!

It doesn't seem a difficult decision

To ensure a safety net and some previsions?

Loved you from a very young age,

Kept caterpillars, watched them stage by stage.

But building work is on the rampage -

The nature lovers are outraged.

A dainty flutter in the breeze

But now there's not enough of these.

The same is said of birds and bees

And the need for material wealth spreads like a disease.

You are a sight to behold -

From years gone by I have been sold!

There used to be a hundredfold -

As many as a common cold!

Summer, you are my favourite season,

I have so many personal reasons.

Yellow, white, purple, brown, blue and green,

Each and every one a desire to see!

Butterflies, moths, you enrich our land,

From sky to ground, from sea to sand.

But more infrastructure in demand,

An eco system lost from our once green land.

Meeting different types far and wide,

Through the air you gently glide.

You're my special friend, I cannot lie,

Though others want to cast you aside .

Some I might not get to see

Will remain in my thoughts especially.

And all the insects realised properly,

For a spirit that looks so carefree.

New builds planned and welcomed citizens,

Build a new life, to make new friends.

But all our creatures we depend,

Although I do not wish to offend.

Let them fly to keep on mating,

We cannot stop the pollinating!

These creatures are so fascinating.

The lack of them, so painful and frustrating.

Mouse patroller

Mouse patroller

I am a little furry cat.

Employed to catch the mice.

And hope to be given a morsel.

From someone who is nice.

I keep the rodents well away -

Me and other felines

And hope there’s someone here that’s kind,

To give me meat for this hunger of mine.

I am too thin but do my job.

Crave attention from time to time.

Could do with a meal every night,

While you enjoy your beer and wine.

I am a little tortoiseshell

With beautiful green eyes.

Had too many frights and injuries,

Today’s another day to survive.

I am a little hungry cat,

Might look a little strange.

Could do with seeing a vet,

For treatment to this mange.

I am a humble loving cat

In need of love and pets

And just remember why I’m here -

To keep away the pests!

As you leave this lovely island

I hope other people will feed,

The too-thin tortoiseshell,

That is in so much need.

Lost generation

Lost Generation

It’s got hard to understand.

Why technology has got the upper hand.

It’s all become so difficult

And none of this is my fault.

Wait so long to talk to someone real.

Any new changes are my Achilles heel.

I’m now a number, not a name.

Nothing will ever be the same.

This way forward this mini-PC

And it’s hard for me to see.

I try to use the internet

But something is trying to intercept.

I want to try to overcome.

It’s the only way to get things done.

Gone are people, voices so friendly.

Everything’s done so differently.

I’m part of a generation left behind,

The world’s become so unkind.

Nothing works like it used to, it’s irritating.

So much has become so frustrating.

I do not embrace a mobile phone -

Feel so out of my comfort zone.

I have tried so much to send a text.

But all it does is leave me vexed.

Wishing was like it used to be.

Living life more simply.

Gone now are the paper and pen.

Now when something goes my way, I say amen!

It’s all become so difficult.

They’re not to blame, It’s not their fault.

Lost generation has not got a clue.

They haven’t been shown what to do.
