Socks!

Socks!

Socks again for this year

I'd much prefer some wine or beer!

Socks - they seem to run away

They never seem to want to stay!

And very soon they get divorced -

Go their separate ways of course!

So many old socks in the odd -sock pile

To pair them up will take a while.

And before my mince pies

Different colours, lengths, designs

Just cannot find no surprise

Not a pair in one size!

There are cats, owls, days of the week,

Those were bought from a dear boutique.

I've looked so very far and wide

To see if one has strayed outside.

There on the path from the last launder

Clothes turned slightly pink I ponder!

The psychedelic circle designs

Still hanging on the washing line!

Checked inside the tumble drier

Sticking together to conspire!

It seems they always disappear

And now it's really become quite clear!

And where's the pair my aunty knitted!

She sat there day after day committed!

One's gone astray, hate to admit it

They're the socks that nicely fitted.

Looked high and low for feet accessories

But they remain one of life's mysteries!

The bigger socks, the blue and red

Have vanished from both my men's legs!

The grey type is no longer matched

And many others are not attached.

I've been looking everywhere -

It seems they've vanished into thin air!

So yet again, Christmas this year

I've new footwear coming out of my ears!

They will part in time I know for sure

And for now, Christmas has become a bore...
