Christmas 2020
Another year has flown by, taken down the Christmas tree,
Childhood decorations made or bought
when we were all carefree.
The garlands we put up early that
adorned our living rooms
The twinkling-coloured fairy lights
sparkled in the darkened afternoons.
As
the last of the silver and gold glitter is swept and vacuumed up
This time last year, some news was
dismissed as a storm in a teacup!
As
the tinsel was packed away in boxes; a different year has passed,
A blackened sky, something in the air,
it's been so overcast.
We
carried on, sent wishes of health, stamped and posted off.
No one mixed something in the midst,
worried about our colds and coughs.
We've not done
this, or not done that, celebrated in our own way.
Cards sent with love with a message
that says, stay safe indoors today.
A darkened cloud has descended but
raised our drinks to a New Year!
One thing is clear, for most of 2020
many have lived in fear.
People that live on their own would have
probably gone to sleep
In spite of the fireworks that lit up the sky, they
wouldn’t hear a peep.
We were made aware, told to beware and
to give each other space!
And in our despair, we kept away, too
frightened to embrace.
Did not get together at
Christmastime, we were told to stay away
And all of Christmas 2020 will be on hold until another day.
For the folk that live alone, messages of love
pour down the phone.
Waving
from their comfort zone, the place of sanctuary that's their home.
We have no doubt that people have moved about - had to get out!
Hard to stay indoors so much, but maybe sparked
a new breakout.
This time last year, we heard that
things were on the change
And all the plans we might have made,
we had to rearrange.
This time next year we pray it will
be back to a new normal
And Christmastime once again will be
special and informal.
Another year will soon pass by, put
up our Christmas trees;
Whether it will be like it was two
years ago there is no guarantee.
Send Christmas cards to the ones we love, wish them good health
Raise our glasses to a New Year, the world, and commonwealth.
Spread gold and silver glitter - -not
this thing that's been so cruel
Thankful for discoveries, millions
saved, our children back at school!
The
twinkling-coloured fairy lights, the fireworks light up the sky.
We pray next year will be so
different from the last for the likes of you and I.
