Back to school! (For my son)
Open your bedroom windows –
And let in some light!
There have been far
Too many sleeping days
And awakes at night!
Favourite games you’ve played
Stuck in your bed -
And you haven’t washed
One hair on your head!
Your worn clothes are still
All over the floor
Along with broken biscuits
And crisp packets galore.
All manner of objects
I’ve never seen before!
With my hands on my hips
But what can one say?
Your bedroom reminds me
Of impending doomsday...
It seems to me
You are now nocturnal
And at the moment
I don’t feel that maternal.
The dust has mounted
But your days are numbered;
I’ve not even counted
The hours you’ve slumbered!
Open your blind -
At your window pane -
You’ve missed some sunshine
And odd showers of rain.
But very shortly
It won’t be the same,
Now it’s time again
To use your brain;
Go back to school
Concentrate on your studies
Come back down to earth -
And be with your buddies.
But when you go back
It will be too quiet,
No one to argue with
No more midday riots!
The house will be clean -
Including your bedroom!
They’ll be so much more room -
With plenty of headroom.
So! Before you flee
Don’t forget your bag,
Grab your key,
Take your phone,
Pick up your lunch,
Can’t wait ‘til you’re home!
