Not gone anywhere
My only son
He's moved away
but not too far
With pretty lady
You have each others' hearts.
You have my heart
I have your room,
Your washing!
And while I have your shirts
To iron, I revert
To the younger years
Consumed!
Now a man
With such a music gift
A caring nature, funny
(And awkward work shifts)
Getting better with money!
And as he pulls up in his car
To pick up his pa
I know he's not gone very far
Love to see his smiling face
And smile when I see
He's left a trace;
Cooked bacon smell
A used glass tumbler
Shower water on the floor
(Never a chore)
Towels moist
The sound of his voice
And my pride swells!
His longed-for visits
Shoes! Socks! Underwear!
everywhere!
His trousers hang up
So grown up
A part of him is still here
and not gone anywhere
For Joseph
