Because it rained

Because it rained

The heat has been turned down

The sky is looking grey

The grass is looking greener

Because it rained today.

Flowers have opened their petals

But need to keep water at bay.

Too much and they will perish

If the storms are here to stay.

Butterflies hide where they sleep at night

Close their wings and keep away

Stay under leaves, or deep in trees

Because it’s raining here today.

Birds will perch on branches

Their feathers they will splay.

They’ll take advantage of the rain.

There’s been too much delay.

Cats will find some shelter

Too far from home they stray.

They curl up tight, keep warm and dry,

Afraid of thunder and lightning display.

The bees stay in their hives,

The sun has lost its rays.

No foraging until it stops -

It’s not safe out there today.

Our streams and rivers so low

They need more water someday.

And people enjoy a cool down.

It’s been raining since midday.
