Happy birthday Joseph!

Ode to Joseph

You are a little drummer boy
Grown up and out of childhood toys
You play with soul with all of your heart -
You had the passion right from the start!
From tapping fingers and banging feet -
You had rhythm from your baby seat!
Coloured sticks with infantile drums,
Children’s T.V. you sang and hummed.
As different music filled your ears
Varied genre throughout the years;
Ear-splitting music and heavy rock-
You danced to Blue Monday from your cot!
You’ve filmed your talent on a cam-
You will surely be a drummer man!
The blood of music flows to your wrists
You are a born percussionist!
From every morning to each night
You play until it sounds just right!
The concentration on your face
Until each beat is in its place.
From Slipknot, Maximo Park and Muse
You practice till your fingers bruise!
You play your drums to every one -
You are our clever maestro son!

For Joseph, Happy 12 birthday,

Lots of love,

Mum and Dad

The hues of Summer

Hues of summer

Out in the sunshine on balconies
A perfect view of aqua sea,
One has red hearts, another shoes,
Turquoise Dolphins with swirly Pink hues!
Blue football teams, Caribbean dreams
Too hot pink and Princess themes!
Others are stripy, some are bright
They deserve to be in hot sunlight.
There’s psychedelic squares, others plain,
Another with Cacti and a plane.
There’s a little Thomas the Tank Engine train…..
A Red and White Turkish flag - in Spain!
The lion King, a Lizard thing -
A life jacket with a rubber ring!
Palm trees, Bumble bees, coral seas,
Calm breeze, Florida Quays, golf tees!
Marijuana, plants of peace -
Orange sunsets - maps of Greece!
A Turtle crawls on scorching sand
she must have been to many lands.
Southpark and a plight for Kenny;
Hot hot playboy-there are so many!
Homer, Bart - a A fright scream;
Purple sauce on yellow ice cream!
Dogs, cats, flip-flops, straw hats,
Frogs, bats, big spots, goofy rats!
Brighton Pier, a sandy beach,
A bottle of beer, some candy sweets.
Bright Blue Lions with lime Green manes
But time has passed and once again
They sadly only seem to appear
Occasionally over the years,
Now folded away in cold dark drawers
Where memories of good times are stored.
Forgotten our beach towels tucked away,
Until they’re used for our next holiday.
