I'm covered in muck and slippery mud -

Head to toe in good old clean muck!

Sorry Mum about my shirt

I accidently rolled over in the dirt!

Encrusted in some earth and soil

My whitish socks now need a boil;

Need a shower, am so unclean

And don't quite know where I've been?!

Never felt so yucky and grubby -

Need my Mums' help to come and scrub me!

My trainers are thick brown and grimy -

Now in the washing machine they go!

(Oh blimey....)

Who cares about a bit of mess?

But can't see my face, I must confess!

My football shirts' so new and recent

But laughing coz I'm so indecent!

Oh boy I'm like a slipperly squid

I really am a mucky kid!

I'm stuck on e-bay for a bid

Think I'll sell for about a quid!

For my son......

Facebooked!

Facebooked!

What would life be like without Facebook
Lexulous; Wordscraper; Scrabble;
A whole load of babble!
Gardeners, farmers - real life dramas!
Addictive and got to look!

Quizzes galore - what's my score?
(My concentration is growing poor)
And as I add more music tracks
I begin to relax
But wonder; who is really bothered
What my music taste lacks?

Pics, new bits, gossip columnists,
An eternal mix
Of escapism or just a quick fix
Or just not much!
But it's ok to keep in touch.

Messages,events, where will it end;
Networking with thousands of friends.
Birthdays, barn buddy, puzzle spot
What's new, what's old, what's hot
And do you really care about my muddy son or not?

Behind a screen we socialise
Type out words; have a chat
Didn't think life could be so flat
But technology has seen to that!
I wonder how much more
It will change before we realise
Life, as we know it has long since died.

Slim line Sublime/History

Slim line sublime

There are violins, A living thing,
A little Sting
In outer space with double bass!
A full orchestra, some soloists -
And in addition - a classical pianist!
All on this tiny appliance.
What brilliant science!

Angel wings; Beatles sing;
All Four Seasons.
(For many reasons)
It's Raining Men amid Cats and Dogs!
A one in ten with Punk and Mods!
And Baby don't think twice
included on this petite device.

Annoyingly catchy tracks
With Basement Jaxx
A little rap and
You can do magic
All squeezed onto this small gadget.

Some football cheers; Tears for Fears
Broken wings, broken hearts;
Mozart still lives and intro parts!
Psychedelic sixties one by the Pixies -
(Although a little dark)
A love song by Roberta Flack,
Compact and neatly stacked.

Small-town boy - A cuddly toy
Seventies, Eighties, Nineties, Noughties,
Skiffle, Bubblegum - glad I bought it!
All the decades through my life
As I sing along to Mike Oldfield's wife.
All Crammed into slim line sublime.

Sgt. Rock, Synth, big on ballads,
Drink the Elixir - a lesson from Salad!
Guitars, Stars, Life on Mars -
Who will drive me home by Cars!
And download queues
For Blues and Muse.

Propagana, Baby now that I've found ya!
All the things she said - so Russian;
There's even one that's all Percussion
And your song that makes me cry, Rod,
As another tune is added to my iPod.

History?

Am not saying its history
But just suddenly
(And this is a mystery)
That has a hold over me!
After a decade or more
Of the most sublime;
Now wondering what for!
After all this time...

So what to choose?
It’s getting confusing -
There’s nothing to lose!
It is most amusing!
My faith has been tested,
My senses have peaked
And almost infested
Have struggled all week...

Am feeling overrun
Must not be judgemental
This is not just for fun
Nor Experimental!
It’s a serious change
And my integrity
Needs to rearrange
This new discovery!

So which way to turn -
Am feeling divided?
There’s so much to learn!
Emotions collided
And all entwined
Just haven’t decided
Will have a glass of wine....
Is it XFM or Caroline?

To our faithful friend!

Odes and all that.....

To Our faithful friend

They picked you up this morning,
You looked a little green,
Didn’t expect to feel like this -
I really feel quite mean!

You’ve been with us for many years
‘Tho now a little battered;
But now replaced with something else -
And didn’t think it mattered!

We’ve all had the pleasure
To enjoy this time with him,
We’ve see so many places
In spite of your dented wing!

The memories are good and strong
You might have gone on and on
But you were getting very old,
Too aged to run, didn’t like the cold.

You very seldom let us down
You’ve run us all so much around
I’m sitting here wearing a frown....
Thinking if you were run into the ground?

So sadly, we’ve got to let you go,
Where you will live, I don’t know!
We don’t quite know what’s in your fate
But we have both been in a state!

Goodbye my friend, our old jalopy,
Am standing here, feeling soppy.
The tears that fell to my feet
As you were slowly towed away down our street....

Happy birthday Joseph!

Ode to Joseph

You are a little drummer boy
Grown up and out of childhood toys
You play with soul with all of your heart -
You had the passion right from the start!
From tapping fingers and banging feet -
You had rhythm from your baby seat!
Coloured sticks with infantile drums,
Children’s T.V. you sang and hummed.
As different music filled your ears
Varied genre throughout the years;
Ear-splitting music and heavy rock-
You danced to Blue Monday from your cot!
You’ve filmed your talent on a cam-
You will surely be a drummer man!
The blood of music flows to your wrists
You are a born percussionist!
From every morning to each night
You play until it sounds just right!
The concentration on your face
Until each beat is in its place.
From Slipknot, Maximo Park and Muse
You practice till your fingers bruise!
You play your drums to every one -
You are our clever maestro son!

For Joseph, Happy 12 birthday,

Lots of love,

Mum and Dad

The hues of Summer

Hues of summer

Out in the sunshine on balconies
A perfect view of aqua sea,
One has red hearts, another shoes,
Turquoise Dolphins with swirly Pink hues!
Blue football teams, Caribbean dreams
Too hot pink and Princess themes!
Others are stripy, some are bright
They deserve to be in hot sunlight.
There’s psychedelic squares, others plain,
Another with Cacti and a plane.
There’s a little Thomas the Tank Engine train…..
A Red and White Turkish flag - in Spain!
The lion King, a Lizard thing -
A life jacket with a rubber ring!
Palm trees, Bumble bees, coral seas,
Calm breeze, Florida Quays, golf tees!
Marijuana, plants of peace -
Orange sunsets - maps of Greece!
A Turtle crawls on scorching sand
she must have been to many lands.
Southpark and a plight for Kenny;
Hot hot playboy-there are so many!
Homer, Bart - a A fright scream;
Purple sauce on yellow ice cream!
Dogs, cats, flip-flops, straw hats,
Frogs, bats, big spots, goofy rats!
Brighton Pier, a sandy beach,
A bottle of beer, some candy sweets.
Bright Blue Lions with lime Green manes
But time has passed and once again
They sadly only seem to appear
Occasionally over the years,
Now folded away in cold dark drawers
Where memories of good times are stored.
Forgotten our beach towels tucked away,
Until they’re used for our next holiday.

Dried up!

Dried up!
My poems are not getting finished,
Some end up in a huge paper pile.
I’ve got words and thoughts coming out my ears
That ends up in a meaningless file!

There are odes written on foolscap paper.
Odd lyrics kept on the P.C.
Rhymes that don’t rhyme or flow simply;
All strewn behind the settee.

I’ve fast running out of ideas –
At the moment have not got a notion!
I’ve finished with Bogeys, Warts and Lice
Sex and Love – and all that commotion!

I’ve written some stories and sagas
And honest don’t want to gloat!
My imagination has got up and gone –
Words have got stuck in the back on my throat.

My inspiration has somewhat disappeared
Or got fused in the back of my mind.
It’s merged with some cells with nonsensical prose –
A sonnets’ been left behind.

I’m on the way to being brain dead;
A verse seems to have gone over my head!
I struggle to sit up in bed,
I’ve dried up and my eyes feel like lead.

The passion of verse and writing,
Have got up and moved away.
Motivation will come back when I least expect –
But for now, it’s not here today!
