Lady of leisure!

Lady of Leisure!

You get up, clean your teeth, use the loo
Pick up your ready made sandwiches too!
(Just before you leave for work)
You maybe think to feed our cat!
I wish my day was as simple as that!

Our teenage child off to school to learn -
Uniform ironed and ready - not his concern;
He too grabs his lunch and blow dries his hair;
The hoover makes an appearance downstairs.
Shaving hairs vanish from the around the sink - who cares!

Grubby towels miraculously now back to white,
Bedding stripped, now clean; a better sight!
Ironing ironed, cleaning clean, washing washed,
Washing up washed up and put away!
Will have much more washing up after today.....

The carpets are magically cleaned -
The spider's webs' nowhere to be seen
(Squeeze in a bit of breakfast in between)
The bath now brighter than white
But it wasn't quite like that last night!

Phenomenally our shopping gets shopped
With a new shopping list at a higher cost.
The bills kind of pay themselves,
you may notice, as we're never in the red -
We could swap roles and you take care of this instead!

And marvel at how tidy it is in here!
Even the toilet is sterile after our rears!
The floor is fresh pine smelling and dirt free -
The 'self cleaning' oven spotless you will agree?
(And somewhere in the middle, some lunch for me)

Most things have had a scrub and dust,
Suffices bleached, scrapped off some rust,
The dustbin, now that is a must!
The car is rinsed and every glass pane -
All windows to see through again.

And now the fridge needs defrosting -
It's overworked and now more costing.
The cupboards' need wiping out
Out of date crisps and stale bottle of stout.
Have the boys bought down their washing? (I doubt)

Trying to think of what to cook for a meal
Might not sound like too much of a big deal,
You prefer this, he would much rather that!
I don't really care as long as it cures
My hunger pains and once again feed our cat!

And somewhere amid all of this
I go to work and do enjoy
To do the very same things......
It is very much a pleasure, but!
You can't accuse me of being a lady of leisure!
